That leaves the Rage Pro and Riva128 as the only viable options

There are also G200, Savage, TTR, Permedia, and other also rans.
The choice of Rage Pro over TNT, G200, and Savage would seem to indicate that price was the top priority and features played second fiddle. Which again supports the assertion that OEM's aren't primarily concerned with the "hottest" chip, but the chip which meets their price/performance criteria. V3 will have compelling performance in its price class and is thus likely to be a strong product.

FWIW, I went out and purchased a Riva128 yesterday (STB Velocity128 of course). ~$100 at CompUSA.

Why?!?! you ask. Cause it is one of the few cards that is guaranteed to work with the latest versions of both Red Hat Linux and BeOS. (I'm turning an old P200 into a dual-boot, non-MS box.) To me that a strong indication of its popularity right now.
