The Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA) is preparing to launch
an initiative that it says may resolve the incompatibility issues that currently
cloud the future of rewritable DVD technology.

There are currently a handful of proprietary rewritable DVD specs, the most
prominent being DVD-RAM and DVD+RW.

OSTA, which created the MultiRead specification that makes it possible to
read all CD discs on CD and DVD drives, will divulge details of the initiative
next week.

The new Presario 1900 series of notebooks are ultra-light and include a detachable wedge that houses the floppy and DVD drive and lifts the keyboard to an easier-to-use position. The wedge can be easily taken off for travel to lighten the weight, which is about 5 pounds.
