A thermostat won't freeze open unless you don't have enough antifreeze in your system. Even then the heat from the engine would have thawed it. It may just be corroded open. Do you have a temperature gauge or an idiot light? If you have a gauge it should read around 190 when your car is warmed up. Your cat may just have been caught in a sneak attack too far from a tree. My neighbors have a couple of pygmy goats. They're so small they walk under the fence. When the coyotes roam they get back in the corral and hide under the horses.
