The new 1.5 megapixel digital camera, which includes a 2x digital zoom, is being introduced this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The ePhoto CL30 is Agfa's first digital camera that uses removable CompactFlash memory cards to capture and store images. Digital cameras previously introduced by Agfa have been using SmartMedia cards. The new camera, which will start shipping this quarter at $399, is one of the industry's lowest priced megapixel digital cameras. The ePhoto CL30 includes a SanDisk 4 megabyte (MB) CF card which will be included with every ePhoto CL30 camera sold. Higher capacity CF cards are available in the 7,000 retail outlets worldwide where SanDisk products are sold. Patrick Pandelaers, Agfa ePhoto digital camera senior project manager, said, ''Agfa has selected SanDisk CompactFlash cards for the new ePhoto CL30 because the cards have proven their ruggedness and reliability among digital camera owners. Agfa customers also will have a wide choice of various capacity sizes as SanDisk sells CF cards ranging in capacity from 4 to 96MB.'' Leon Malmed, senior vice president of sales and marketing at SanDisk, said, ''Agfa's ePhoto CL30 represents a major design win for SanDisk and CompactFlash, a flash memory card that SanDisk invented in 1994. The camera should enjoy considerable success because it is attractively priced and has the compelling features that consumers are looking for in a digital camera. Agfa now joins 27 other companies producing cameras with CF slots including Canon, Casio, Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Kodak, Konica, Minolta, Nikon, Panasonic, Polaroid, Vivitar and Yashica.'' CompactFlash has become the de facto global standard for digital film and the most popular storage card used in Windows CE-based handheld computers. More than 120 products have been introduced that use CompactFlash cards including 61 digital cameras and 37 handheld computers. The megapixel ePhoto CL30 is targeted at businesses and consumers who want an easy-to-use, inexpensive camera for taking high quality digital snapshots. The stylish, compact camera has a USB interface which allows users to download photos to a PC at least 10 times faster than by using the standard PC serial port.
