In addition I understand that the dividend is based on when the stock was purchased. I think to get under the deadline you had to have purchased it by 12/31. If this is true then the people who bought today will be in sad shape.

If it splits 3 - 1 the shares now worth 30 will be worth 10, there will just be three times as many. So no dilution.

SPLITS ARE MEANINGLESS. SI needs a banner on every thread to remind people.

As for restricting the new shares, that's a strange twist but I don't know the company.

Wes, disregard my last message (misdirected to Gersh). Apparently, this is a distribution of restricted shares, not a stock split. I misunderstood.
