Craig the speech must be over by now. I wonder if there was a Q. & A. afterwards...

That press release sure splashed some cold water on things. If there was a takeover in the works, there's no way that the company would have sent out a press release saying "no news." The only proper (legal) response is "no comment" when material events are developing. I'd guess that we backtrack a good 5-7 points tomorrow. We'll have to wait for after the earnings report to hit the 80s.

Doughboy.

If you read the statement carefully, it doesn't say that they don't know why the stock soared. The article says:

"We have made no announcements," a company spokesman said. "I haven't seen anybody make any announcements about us."

That is the sorriest excuse for a "we know nothing that would account for today's trading" statement I have ever seen. That's really kind of a "no comment" because the spokesman simply says (s)he knows nothing that was announced publicly that would account for today's trading.

Methinks there is more here than meets the eye, especially in view of yesterday's action and the action on options expiration day (Dec 18). I'll bet that talks hit a snag that day, and they hit another snag yesterday, and things got resolved today.
