"Can I use only one computer for both RT and surfing during the trading day"

helge, you can use one pc, if that's what you want to do. a lot of traders are using multiple monitors running off one puter. but i don't think that is quite what you were asking. yes, running realtick3 does permit you to do other things.

if you wish to use one monitor, it then becomes a question of how large your desktop is, how much "stuff" you want running, and how much RAM you have. i keep irc and realtick3 open on my desktop and a browser window and maybe ms word minimized. my system resources could handle a few more apps, but this is adequate for me, for now. i really want to upgrade to dual monitors in the very near future.

i don't do much surfing during the trading day... usually just checking in here at SI and retrieving email.

hope this helps,
mark

Helge,

I would add to Mr. Marks reply:

If you intend to trade ipo's, monster stocks such as Amazon, or other FAST market conditions, then you want to take care and acquire a proper internet connection to the price servers.

This is not too difficult to do, if you are using a dialup connection.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the MBT webpage:

mbtrading.com follow the link:

ISPS.com
search for AlterNet
ISP in your area

Here it is: isps.com

Use the search by Area Code function. Sort through the results and you should be able to find an isp that provides unlimited use for a very reasonably price and most importantly uses the best backbone to the price servers. alternet

I have found an isp that uses MCI in chicago is worse than useless while an isp utilizing alternet is very quick and reliable.

You may already know how to do a trace route.

The internet connection between your computer(s) and the price servers are as important as anything.

good luck,

funk
