Boxing for tax purposes is just tougher. That is not the only reason to box, another would be to keep the position from going against you and another would be to keep the borrow on a stock that might be tough to get the next time you want to get short. Anything with a constructive gain from 1998 must now either be realized or unboxed for 60 days starting sometime before the end of January.Thus a much trickier game.
