Arnie,

the reason that cdma requires more towers than NXTL's iDEN is because cdma operates at 1900 mhz and NXTL's iDEN is at 800 mhz.

CDMA can operate at any frequency. There is an 800 MHz version and 1900 MHz version. In my local market, Bel Atlantic Mobile operates CDMA network in 800 MHz band.

So you may be right that 800 MHz TDMA network may need fewer towers than 1900 MHz CDMA network, but in 800 MHz, CDMA should have the advantage.
