That doesn't match my experience. Every time I have ordered a hard cover book from AMZN, it was discounted 30%. When I go into the local Barnes & Noble store, they only discount hard cover books 10%. I agree the shipping can be a factor if you only order one book at a time but you also don't pay sales tax on purchases over the internet so that covers part of the shipping.

By the way, UPS is a private company so there isn't any play there. Try FDX if you want to buy a shipper.
