"We have picked eight names which we view as technically attractive going into 1999," said Ralph Acampora, director of technical research at Prudential Securities, in a research brief. "We have chosen a mixture of blue-chips and small-caps to take advantage of a market that we feel has some blue-chip leadership and is also beginning to broaden out.

"Our list of blue-chip names includes Compaq Computer, Intel, Microsoft, Pfizer, and Texas Instruments," he said. "Our list of small-cap names includes Liposome, Platinum Software, and Taco Cabana."
