Every year ,regular as a clock, many of the "experts" predict that small caps will outperform. So far they have been wrong every time. It seems to me that this bull market is different from earlier ones in that it is completely dominated by institutions. Large institutions must put most of their money into big caps because otherwise they will excessively drive up prices when they buy and drive them down when they sell. We also have the effect of index funds which by definition invest only in big caps.
Thus I suspect big caps will continue to outperform, and that's where I put most of my money. Nevertheless I can't resist the temptation to
try to find smaller companies that could quickly grow into tomorrow's big caps. You only have to find one or two to make up for a lot of mistakes.
