NetRadio Introduces ''Clickable Audio'' With NetCompanion; Now Users Can Easily See What They're Listening To ... And Even Buy It Online

January 6, 1999 09:00 AM
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1999--One of the common concerns voiced by traditional radio listeners is not knowing the name of a song and artist while it is being broadcast.

Now NetRadio Network , the first provider of original audio content on the Internet, addresses that objection of its listeners and then some -- with the introduction of its "portable" interactive Web music and information player, NetCompanion. This unique device allows the listener to both find the name of the song playing and buy it real-time.

By selecting a desired NetRadio music or information channel, a separate window opens, providing the song name and artist information currently playing, as well as the song/artist data for the selection previously played on that channel. If users also wish to purchase the music listened to, they may "click and buy" the CD containing either selection directly from CDPoint, NetRadio's online music store.

NetCompanion allows users to easily "change channels" anywhere within the network at any time with the mere click of a mouse. Additionally, they may also easily click and surf to all of NetRadio's online stores. This interactive audio capability is now available on most of the 120+ unique music and information channels offered by NetRadio.

"For quite some time our users have wanted to know the names of the selections and artists they were listening to," said David Witzig, NetRadio's vice president for commerce and content development. "NetCompanion makes it easy for them to do just that, while allowing everyone to effortlessly 'listen, click, and buy' these selections without having to leave their computer."

"The introduction of NetCompanion also brings incremental opportunities to our advertisers and sponsors," added Jan Andersen, NetRadio's senior vice president for global sales and marketing. "Since all the audio content is in effect clickable, it means that any sponsor's audio ad may likewise be 'clicked,' which increases the overall cost efficiency and effectiveness of an integrated advertising effort on any of our highly targeted channels."

With CDPoint , NetRadio's proprietary and fully integrated online music store with more than 250,000 available titles, listeners can enjoy music and then simply click their mouse to immediately buy what they are enjoying in real-time.

Good morning!

About J-Bird of yesterday, here's part of a news item from Dec. 22:

The article is to announce that J-Bird:

>has retained Constant
Management as Financial and Strategic Business Advisor in connection >with expansion and growth
plans for 1999.

Then it tells about J-Bird and mentions NAVR>

>J-Bird sets itself apart from web-only businesses and conventional record labels by
>successfully blending traditional brick and mortar distribution with the sizzle and growth of Internet
>visibility and distribution, typified by projects with AT&T's a2b music, CDnow and Trans World
>Entertainment.

[skip block]

>J-Bird Records was founded by Jay Barbieri in 1996 as the First World Wide Web Recording
>Label. Since then, the label has seen its catalog grow to over 260 titles and has distribution to over
>50,000 accounts nationally via the Navarre Corporation [Nasdaq:NAVR - news], the country's
>largest distributor of independent labels.

It sounds as if someone should call J-Bird to find out if they are also distributing their offering through NAVR's on-line facilities or only through NAVR's on-the-ground markets. I don't own any shares of J-Bird so I'll let someone who does make the call.
