JAN 6, 1999, M2 Communications - DUBLIN, Ireland -- Lucent Technologies has launched a complete fixed wireless point-to-point data networking solution, the new WaveLAN/Point-to-Point kit, which enables high speed wireless bridging between buildings up to 7.5 kilometres apart.

The WaveLAN/Point-to-Point kit is a complete all-in-one-box wireless bridge solution and includes a WavePOINT II point-to-point bridge, WaveLAN/IEEE radio PC Card, cable assembly, lightning protector, Yagi antenna and all supporting software. The WaveLAN/Point to Point kit is an economical alternative to using expensive leased lines to provide high-speed data networking between buildings. The kit eliminates the requirement for costly cable trenching and installation (as well as the usual wait for a leased line to be set up) and traffic charges, as WaveLAN utilises license-free 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum radio technology. The kit is also faster than leased lines, providing users with a 2-Mbps data rate. The WaveLAN/Point-to-Point kit is easy to set up and installation can be completed within hours.

The bundled WaveMANAGER Software enables IT Managers to remotely monitor and manage the entire link from a central location. This software includes a Remote Point-to-Point diagnostics tool for easy system configuration and site verification. "Having a highly reliable solution is what customers are looking for," said Harry Stevens, WaveLAN Business Manager for Lucent Technologies. "Lucent is continually looking for ways to provide more for less to help our customers stay competitive."
