I received my proxy statement around Christmas and noticed an
increase in the authorized shares on the proxy card. Historically,
this means one of several things but the most likely they are
getting ready to announce a split.

Any thoughts?

News January 7, 06:59 Eastern Time
JAN 7, 1999, M2 Communications - DUBLIN, Ireland --Lucent Technologies today announced a new release of its WaveMANAGER/Client tool that makes it easier than ever before to install the WaveLAN wireless local area network (WLAN). The newly-integrated Site Monitor tool can monitor several access points simultaneously, thereby reducing the time required to perform a site survey for determining the placement of the Access Points, which are the base stations in a WLAN. Additionally, Site Monitor can reduce overall network installation costs because its greater accuracy is likely to identify that fewer Access Points are actually needed to cover an area as compared with alternative site survey methods. The Site Monitor tool can also be used to perform post-installation verification of full building coverage. "This new function is ideal for value-added resellers (VARs) and installers of complex building-wide multi-cell networks," said Harry Stevens, WaveLAN Business Manager, Lucent Technologies. "The tool makes site surveys much easier and more accurate, which is key to a successful large scale wireless LAN implementation."

WaveMANAGER/Client with Site Monitor is available to existing customers as a free download from www.wavelan.com. How WaveMANAGER/Client and Site Monitor work:

A wireless network consists of PC Card radios mounted in mobile computers and ISA-card radios mounted in desktop units. Access Points are connected to a wired Ethernet backbone. These Access Points provide the wireless connection between the network backbone and the various WaveLAN equipped computers. An optimum wireless network design calls for the widest coverage area with the least number of access points. The Microsoft Windows-based WaveMANAGER/Client tool is installed in a portable laptop with a WaveLAN PC card. Site Monitor can visually show all the Access Points within reach of the mobile station. It shows the quality of the links between the mobile station and each of the Access Points. A log function is provided to make monitoring over a longer period of time more convenient. To set up the wireless network, Access Points are placed in temporary locations and powered up. To examine the resulting coverage, the user just walks around the facility holding the WaveLAN equipped laptop and monitors the moving graphs for signal strength and quality. To maximize wireless coverage per Access Point, the user can relocate the Access Points to provide full coverage of the area and minimize the number of Access Points. Network managers can use the WaveMANAGER/Client tool to set up WaveLAN wireless networks of all sizes and levels of complexity. The WaveMANAGER Client tool runs on Microsoft Windows95, Window98 and WindowsNT.
