Anybody else hear the Morning Edition story on alternative vehicles. Nickel Metal Hydride and EV-1's got a pretty good reference, although the standard "even with the new batteries, electric only vehicles still need to be recharged about every 100 miles" was included. Primary emphasis was on hybrids, Toyota's subsidizing its current EVs, the promise of fuel cells, and "the future is still the future" (courtesy of Car and Driver). Still, a good story.

By the way, does anyone know how to alter font formats or point size in these responses?

AQUINAS COLLEGE TO FEATURE CUTTING EDGE OF PV TECHNOLOGY

Aquinas College, Grand Rapids MI broke ground for the construction of the state-of-the-art Jareccki School for
Advanced Learning on June 30. The new facility, expected to be in use by Fall of 1999, will feature United Solar
Systems Corp. UNI-SOLAR Structural Standing Seam roofing panels made from USSC's triple junction amorphous
silicon on steel. The PV roof is expected to power as much a 20 percent of the Jarecki School's energy needs, even
given West Michigan's low average number of sunny days. Similar roofing materials designed for residential applications
are being considered for use in the construction of Aquinas' new apartment complex, also scheduled to be in use by the
fall of 1999.

"People across the country are asking how to approach energy in the coming century," said Dr. Nicholas Pietrangelo,
Founder and Vice President of R&D for Daystar Energy Corp., which is supplying the roofing materials for the project.
"They should beat a path to the Jarecki School at Aquinas to observe this technology first hand."
