Speaking of Walmart...actually in the winter I am preferring to actually go online to do some of the shopping...why? Because the actual retail Walmart stores have HUGE parking lots...and when you have wind chills under 0 degrees F., There is NO way, bundled up or not I will take a baby outside!!!!!!!! I'm sure others in cold climates must feel the same.... I shop at grocery stores that have special parking for people with kids...I guess I'm HANDICAPPED, oh no....

Dear DJ8000,

As you are obviously a BEAR one can easily determine the reasoning behind the comments you made in your last post! If you think the only revenue AOL receives is from their monthly subscribers you've been hibernating too long. I suggest you come out of hiding and smell the coffee. Word to the wise is don't waste your money shorting AOL!

FYI, AOL get royalty fees from other businesses. All you have to do is READ the previous post and find one of many such deals.

Hi DJ8000,

Thank you for your comments about AOL and it's competition like Microsoft.

During my research on technology and business, I have run across numerous examples, like Schick (razors) and Kleenex (tissue) (just a few), where the product seems easy enough to duplicate, but nobody could break the hold the market these companies these companies cornered. And lots of companies tried, but they could not. The conclusion- Marketing and brand name recognition are what did it.

It is an irrefutable force of nature.

You may want to do a little bit more info digging about this because I haven't found the same thing:

-- Go to the English Roses section of MSN Network:
garden.com

they are selling roses for $30 each. I can tell you that I can order ( and I did so ) THE BEST English roses from Wayside Gardens for $9 to $17. This may be one reason MSN network is not on fire like AOL

-- so ecommerce involves many things not just having a website. Pricing is very important. My understanding is that MSN has had a harder time getting their MSN network off the ground than AOL. Why?
Personally I think one of the reasons may be because MSN looks more sterile.

--Forget Walmart: Here is what I want you to imagine: Think of an AOL webpage full of graphics and pizzazz: where you then go into a series of drawers, ( like they have now ). Each drawer labeled with various business categories just like the recent Planet R/ deal.
--Each AOL deal will be carefully crafted to provide a steady stream of fees from each company: fees for space utilization; advertising;help with sales etc.'
--Imagine AOL as the next Yellow pages with all those businesses paying fees. In the US and worldwide.
--Somebody said AOL will be the nest operating system of the Internet.True.
--So far with MSFT, after a great start 10 years ago, what seems to have come out in the last 2 years are steady multiple accusations that MSFT is trying to stay No 1 through push and shove of upstart innovators ( NSCP ,JAVA etc ) than true innovation.
