Frank,
I agree with the first part of the statement. "may lead to shakeout
of smaller PC add on card supplier" Companies such as Hercules,
Number Nine(only because there own chipset is not a success and
strapped for cash) and others will lose out. Stronger companies
such as Creative & Diamond will do OK because of there brand recognition in retail as long as there are chip suppliers to work
with such as S3, Nvidia and 3D Labs. It could be possible in the
future that some more deals like the 3DFX/ STB deal happen but
there will be add on graphics for quite some time.
The new graphics products coming out this year will tax Intels new
proccesors to the limit so there will always be that mid and high
end add in board requirement.
