The pressure is mounting on the cable MSO's to start rolling (or at least promoting) their broadband digital systems and features. Web TV and Echostar will announce an alliance to allow new Echo subscribers to get an enchanced box from Web TV that will allow interactive functionality and internet access. Echo added 130,000 new subs in December alone and Direct TV will likely announce a similar number. The battle lines have been drawn and cable has the fatter pipe. 1999 is a critical year for cable. at the current pace, the satellite DBS providers could gain over 2.5 to 3.5 million new subs in 1999 with the vast majority of them disconnecting from cable services that are still analog with a 60 channel offering.

Their are several articles on this announcment. Check the MSNBC site under business. They also mention that deals like this are putting pressure on the cables to announce and begin their digital deployments. CCUR is vital to the MSO's (and SFA) in making digital VOD and other services a reality. It shouldn't be long now. When cable plans and deployments begin, CCUR will not be an unknown to those investors who are paying the highest prices ever to own cable operators. Good luck!
