A little more on B of A and Compaq developments . . . .

According to the Xinhua News Agency (!) of January 7, the B of A pilot is using Visa cash stored-value smart cards. My take: If this pilot gets rolled out, B of A plans to distribute the cards by replacing its Visa magstripe credit cards with biometric smart cards. I'm not sure how people getting biometric smart cards will enroll themselves, though. Maybe B of A will have to open storefronts for that purpose. Or (just speculating) somehow IREG will be involved with its self-enrollment card, although that doesn't seem all that secure to me, given opportunity for enrollment fraud.

Compaq: Not much to report, other than a statement in the January 9, 1999 New Scientist (Britain?), regarding the $99 IDT product: "The first batch has just reached Europe."
