Day of Reckoning for Day-Trading Firms?
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1999--Alleging fraud and other problems, dozens of day-trading firms are being targeted by state regulators, Business Week reports. The crackdown may result in significant industry reforms. Day traders are a small subset of online traders, but they play a major role in a critical segment of the market - the 100 most actively traded NASDAQ stocks. All told, day trading represents 12% to 15% of NASDAQ's daily volume, according to the Electronic Trading Association. Some of the firms are promoting day trading as a way to make lots of money. And critics question if firms are pushing day trading for novice investors with limited capital.
