Acclaim Sports Signs NY Yankees All-Star Shortstop Derek Jeter!
2-Time World Champion Set to Endorse Acclaim's All-Star Baseball 2000(tm) Video Game
GLEN COVE, N.Y.--(BW Sports Wire)--Jan 6, 1999-- Acclaim Sports, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKLM - news), a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced that Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees has signed an exclusive endorsement deal for All-Star Baseball 2000. Licensed by Major League Baseball® and the Major League Baseball Players Association, All-Star Baseball 2000 features Acclaim's renowned Hi-Rez(tm) graphics, all 30 Major League teams, over 700 players from the MLBPA, authentic team play styles, and full season-long player and team stats.
Jeter joins a select group of professional athletes including Brett Favre, Steve Yzerman, Keith Van Horn, and Jeremy McGrath as spokesmen for Acclaim Sports' titles. ''Last season, All-Star Baseball '99 set a new standard for baseball video games in terms of both graphics and gameplay,'' said Jeter. ''I am excited to work with the Acclaim Sports team to make All-Star Baseball 2000 the most incredible baseball game ever.''
Terms of the endorsement deal for All-Star Baseball 2000 call for Jeter to star in a national television advertising campaign and to appear on all packaging, print advertising, and merchandising for the game. Jeter also will work with the game developers and provide scouting reports for the game.
''Derek Jeter represents the next generation of baseball superstars and Acclaim Sports represents the video game leader in next generation technology,'' said Mike Jerchower, Acclaim Sports marketing manager. ''Derek's enormous popularity and winning reputation will allow us to reach beyond the traditional video game audience with our incredible baseball simulation.''
Jeter, in only three full seasons as a professional, is a two-time World Series Champion, having won with the Yankees in both 1996 and 1998. In 1996, he was named American League Rookie of the Year and in 1998, he was selected to his first All-Star Game. Considered by many to be the prototype of the modern shortstop, Jeter combines speed and defensive prowess with consistency and power at the plate. In 1998, Jeter hit .324 with 19 home runs and 84 RBI, finishing in the top 5 in the American League in batting average (5th), runs (1st), hits (3rd), triples (4th), and multi-hit games (2nd). A popular major leaguer and a fan favorite, Jeter's incredible ability, professionalism, and lighthearted nature assure his continued ascent to baseball superstardom.
All-Star Baseball 2000 is scheduled to ship in April for Nintendo 64, Color Gameboy, and PC-CD Rom. The game will be supported by a multi-million dollar television, print, radio, on-line, and in-store marketing campaign.
