Apple Removes iMac Price Restriction
(01/06/99, 11:15 a.m. ET)
By Mark Harrington, Computer Retail Week

Apple lifted on Tuesday the minimum advertised price (MAP)
restrictions for the original iMac computer, letting retailers set pricing
at their discretion, according to a source at Macworld Expo in San
Francisco.

The move will pave the way for $999 iMacs in the near future, the
source said.

Apple set a $1,299 MAP for the iMac when it started shipping in
August. Best Buy broke the MAP in December when it sold the
popular, teal-colored computer at $999 for two days, then at $1,099
for an additional four days.

There you go. Price lists and all.

Also, I guess it should be, "Every time a computer beeps another iMac gets installed."
