'Twas the Season for DVD Rentals; NetFlix.com Announces the Year's Top 10 DVD Movies Rented on the Internet

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (ENTERTAINMENT WIRE) - Driven by record-breaking DVD hardware sales, DVD rentals soared to new heights at NetFlix.com (www.netflix.com), the world's largest DVD rental store.
The store experienced a 50-percent increase in orders during the month of December as compared with the previous month. As millions of consumers nationwide welcomed DVD players into their homes, the holiday break provided customers an opportunity to rent the DVD title of their choice without having to brave holiday traffic or freezing temperatures.

NetFlix.com's success this season reflects the overwhelming acceptance of the DVD format and signals the tremendous popularity and convenience of renting via the Internet.

The announcement comes on the heels of the company's release of the year's Top 10 DVD rental titles. Despite a strong showing by sci-fi releases, the romantic misadventures of Harrison Ford and Anne Heche in "Six Days, Seven Nights" proved irresistible to DVD renters this year. The film was the most-rented DVD of 1998, according to NetFlix.com.

Swashbuckling hero "Zorro" sliced his way through the competition, landing in second place on the year-end tally. Box office blockbusters "Lethal Weapon 4" and "Deep Impact" joined other NetFlix.com rental favorites "Godzilla," "Lost In Space," "Mercury Rising" and "Wild Things" as the most-popular DVD rental titles. With NetFlix.com's convenience and unsurpassed inventory, renting today's hottest DVD releases is just a mouse click away.
