SRSL: Here's an article from today. Company is doing business with some big names.
On Its Sound Re-Positioning Technology FOCUS, and Notification of Patent
Issuance on its Virtual Audio Technology, TruSurround

Implementation Options Via Integrated Circuit and DSP Code Allow License
By Manufacturers of Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Professional Sound
And Computer Products

SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- SRS Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRSL), a
leading provider of audio and voice technology solutions, announces today that
the protection for its portfolio of audio technologies has been strengthened
significantly with the issuance of new patents in the United States. These
patents further solidify SRS Labs' leadership position as a developer of
unique audio and voice technologies that add significant value to the products
from consumer electronics, car sound, and professional sound and computer
manufacturers.
"We are very pleased to receive the patent for FOCUS and the patent
notification for TruSurround," stated Tom Yuen, chairman and CEO of SRS Labs.
"These patents help demonstrate our commitment to become the leading provider
of audio and voice solutions to Original Equipment Manufacturers entering the
convergence market. Our portfolio of intellectual property has enhanced
millions of familiar products over the years, and our portfolio will grow to
enhance emerging products such as HDTV, Set-Top Boxes and the Internet."

FOCUS Issued U.S. Patent No. 5,850,453
FOCUS is a unique technology based on the human hearing system designed to
electronically reposition a sound image from non-optimally located speakers.
FOCUS was originally designed for automobiles where producing a vivid sound
image is a challenge due to speakers which are often located in the door
panels. Additional applications are large screen televisions, where the
speakers are located below the picture, and home and computer audio systems
were speakers must be placed in sub-optimal locations for aesthetic or design
reasons.
Manufacturers currently implementing FOCUS include NEC(R) and
NuReality(R). NEC provides FOCUS as a feature on its floor standing home
entertainment system, to raise the stereo presentation to ear level.
NuReality(R) offers FOCUS in its car audio amplifiers and processors to bring
the sound image up to the dashboard, from speakers located in the doors or
kickpanels.

FOCUS Implementation Options
FOCUS is easily implemented into equipment using an integrated circuit or
DSP algorithm. Integrated Circuit options for FOCUS include the M62436FP and
M62437FP from Mitsubishi(R), and the NJM2184 and NJM2189 from NJRC(R). DSP
implementations are readily available from AKM Semiconductor's(R) AK7712 and
AK7714 platform.

TruSurround Patent to Include 48 Claims
TruSurround takes advantage of the many new multi-channel audio sources
for music and film soundtracks such as DVD's Dolby Digital(R) (AC-3(R)), Dolby
Pro Logic(R) and Circle Surround(R). For applications where only two speakers
are available, such as two speaker home theater systems, televisions and
computers, TruSurround provides a means of enjoying a surround sound
experience from just these two speakers. TruSurround re-mixes up to six
channels of surround sound information into a two-speaker output, while
retaining all of the original spatial information. The spatial cues and
surround sound effects are processed using psycho acoustic techniques, such
that sound appears to come from the sides of and behind the listener.
General Instruments(R) has announced their intention to feature
TruSurround in a new line of digital set-top boxes for production later this
year. Sony(R) is using TruSurround in their Wega(R) line of televisions to
provide listeners with a surround sound experience, as is Pioneer(R) in select
models of DVD Players, A/V Receivers and Televisions. Thousands of computers
including models from Gateway(R) and Compaq(R) have shipped with TruSurround
enhanced DVD players.

TruSurround Implementation Options
As with FOCUS, TruSurround may be implemented via Integrated Circuit or
DSP code. ICs and DSP platforms now shipping with TruSurround include the
M624XXFP, M624XYFP, M65XXXFP and M65XXYFP from Mitsubishi, the NJM2180,
NJM2187, NJM2188 and NJU25018 from NJRC, the MED252078 from Medianix(R), 56007
from Motorola(R), FC9332F and TC9337F from Toshiba(R), and the MB86342B from
Fujitsu(R).
Demonstrations of these technologies and further information on available
chip options, is available from January 7-10th at the SRS Labs Booth at CES in
the Las Vegas Convention Center (#3635), or contact the global headquarters of
the SRS Labs sales department at 949-442-1070. Information on additional
sales offices can be found at srslabs.com.

Patent Information
SRS Labs' sound technology FOCUS, that electronically repositions a sound
image creating a enhanced sound field from any non-optimally located or small
speakers, has been granted U.S. Patent No. 5,850,453 with twenty-two separate
claims. SRS Labs has also received notification from the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office that it will be granted a patent for its multi-channel
virtualization technology, TruSurround. The TruSurround patent will include
forty-eight claims and cover implementations designed to process a 5-channel
audio source into just two speakers, while retaining all of the original audio
information and affording the listener the sensory perception that they are
surrounded by additional "phantom" speakers. SRS Labs has also received
notifications that a patent will be granted for the five-speaker
implementation of TruSurround. SRS Labs also has multiple foreign patent
applications pending for both the FOCUS and TruSurround technologies.
