Senthil.....what's interesting to wonder about is, WHY Compaq made this switch after all of the heavy ZIP promotion pre-Christmas. They now offer a drive that is inferior to a very inexpensive ZIP/floppy combo.....they are going against the grain of ZIP's increasing ubiquity and, if you ask me.....they are stiffing their own buyers, big time. Why in the world would they want to sow confusion and incompatibility among their own???

Compaq IS famous for ruthless dumping of dusty inventory at this time of year. Weren't they 'giving away' 14 inch monitors last year. I haven't checked the Compaq site today, but noted an item somewhere yesterday that said Radio Shack was dropping prices of in-stock Compaq computers a bunch (maybe even a whole bunch.....not sure).

Can't rule out Compaq's possible unease re. ZIP's dominance, either. Dominant companies have the clout to dictate prices and OEMs hate this. Compaq hates this a lot (their reliance on Intel chips in the past has often been the source of MAJOR heart burn). They may be trying to protect themselves by returning a balance of power to the battleground.
