Marc,

I never used the word "manipulation" feeling that it was inappropriate since MMs are always doing their best (and often worst) to try to manage their market to their advantage as a matter of course. I never saw a conspiracy, just a set of circumstances arising out of a natural and well documented conflict. A drama in progress. Extended and highly speculative short positions getting hammered because of their wrong way orientation, scrambling to do damage control. All the while, the longs come in on wave after wave of positive sentiment wreaking havoc on their covering activities.

It is exceptionally easy these days to spook profit taking. Especially in a stock with such a good run up in the face of massive skepticism. The tricks employed for doing this are talked about a lot by Kramer and other grass roots pundits. Using them does not constitute manipulation of the market.

The speculative portion of our posts was the assumption that a few, at least temporarily during reduced volume activity, could impose their price performance will on the many if they were ambitious, daring, motivated and had deep enough pockets to go the distance. That really does not sound so far fetched. And, I guess it could be paraphrased as "Apple is an emotional stock," and "large funds and investors come and go, causing volatility." Though with less clarity.
