UMC group sees 1999 sales 60-62 bln twd/Q1 foundry prices not to fall much

TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - The United Microelectronics Corp group expects 1999
sales topping 60-62 bln twd, co-CEO John Hsuan was quoted as saying by the
Economic Daily News.
Hsuan said the sales estimate, including 52-54 bln twd from wafer
contract-manufacturing, excludes sales by integrated circuit-design companies
UMC has invested in.
While contract-manufacturing prices are oftentimes affected by prices of
dynamic random access memory microchips, the former is unlikely to see steep
price declines in the first quarter of the year, he said.
