The Chip Big 3 Start Mass Production of
256M DRAM

01/05(È) 16:38

Samsung Electronics,LG Semicon and Hyundai Electronics have launched
commercial production of next-generation 256M DRAM Chips, which was
expected to start in the middle part of the year 2000 .

Those internal makers expect to engross almost all chip markets since it is at least 6
months prior to overseas manufacturers, such makers from United States and
Japan.

Samsung which succeeded in developing the chip for the first time in the world last
April has already equipped for the mass production and plans to start producing it
from the coming April, at latest. It is also expected to manufacture about 100
million units this year.

LG has already supplied samples for its main users since last year and plans to
provide it to the market from June, at latest. Hyundai has a plan to start operating
the mass product lines within the first half of this year and intends to produce about
100 million units.

The early price of that chip is expected to be about 400 dollars per unit and it seems
to maintain the high price, amounts to 150~200 dollars for the time being.
