That is like saying that killing in cold blood and killing in self-defense are somehow comparable because both involved killing! As for the departure of Newt, yes, I think that was a positive. But maybe not in the way you think. Every generation of Republican devils makes the previous one look like angels. And even though their venom and hatred will endear them to the fanatics of the far right, it is bound to lose them the votes of the majority of American voters in the next elections.
