Forefront Graphics to OEM Ancor Switch

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Forefront Graphics, Canada's largest digital video products integration company, announced today it has signed an OEM agreement with Ancor Communications, Inc., (Nasdaq: ANCR) a leading Fibre Channel switch provider, to integrate and sell the GigWorks MKII switches as part of their storage area network (SAN) solutions to the entertainment and pre-press industries.

In addition to the MKII switches, Forefront's SAN solution includes RAID storage devices from Eurologic, SANergy software from Mercury, and host-bus adapters from Emulex. Forefront's SAN product offers its worldwide customers high-bandwidth data delivery specifically required for the demands of the film- and video-broadcast and production markets.

According to Robert Anderson, Forefront Graphics general manager, "Our customers have historically met their data needs by loading each workstation with lots of storage. Sharing stored data among the 'storage silo' workstations has been slow and hard-to-manage. With the aggressive pricing of the MKII 8-port switch, we can now offer our customers an affordable switched SAN solution, enabling centralized, shared storage resources with lightning-speed access to Eurologic RAID devices. And because the MKII-8 is priced near a managed hub, I expect more of our customers to upgrade directly to a switched SAN. Ancor's full switch offering, including both 8- and 16- port configurations, also delivers ease-of-management, with port-by-port control."

"We are pleased to partner with Forefront to deliver an integrated SAN solution to the demanding entertainment and pre-press industries," said Carla Kennedy, Ancor's vice president of marketing. "Forefront's SAN solution includes leading-edge, best-of-class products, and we are excited to be included in that list."

From looking at today's trading chart, there appear to have been some large blocks moving on a reasonably frequent basis. Not all the same size blocks (perhaps to avoid drawing attention), but regular, frequent movement...as if someone wanted to "average in" over the course of a trading day to establish a 250K share holding...

Any thoughts (other than hooray for ANCR)?

Does anyone out there work for an investment house who could explain how a firm would take a relatively large position in a relatively lightly traded issue without running it up?
