WebTV/Echostar set-top box deal link.

EchoStar Communications and WebTV Networks are preparing to announce a new generation of set-top box that will combine satellite reception, Internet browsing and eventually VCR-like recording functions all in one device.

This may be MSFT's ace in the hole. Take care.

If these analysts are so accurate , they do not need the job of being an analyst. We are now in
a new economy, if Yahoo's PE of 200 can be justified, then why not MSFT being 100 ? Couple
years ago, PE of 25 was high , but from today's point view , a PE of 50 is pretty common for a
high growth hi tech stock. The time is changing, the
business environment is changing , and you can not sit in your own small ivory box to see the
changing world with the old concept.

Ed, I agree completely. Look at Amazon, EBAY, YHOO.
MSFT has so much more substance than those company's.
I think a higher P/E is completely justified.

>>why not MSFT being 100 ?

It's a good thought, ed. I'm all for that, but I'm not going to bet the ranch on it. The business models of msft and the hyergrowth stage i'nuts are entirely different (I say that with no disrespect, since I hold both msft and aol with pleasure). I think the market views them as seperate sectors. Bricks and mortar do make a difference.

Yahoo Finance shows Microsoft's current ttm p/e as 71.81, and the forward looking (fy00) ratio is 53.8 based on the analysts' consensus of 2.81. That's pretty high if they don't beat the pants off the earnings growth of 19.6% the analysts are predicting. Posting a blue sky breakout quarter would be a big help.
