Houston, Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Compaq Computer Corp. Chief
Executive and President Eckhard Pfeiffer said he expects stronger
growth in the personal computer market in Europe than in the U.S.
and is comfortable with expectations for the PC market to grow 13
percent to 15 percent in 1999, CNBC reported. Pfeiffer said
Compaq's acquisition of Digital Equipment Corp. should bring
''synergies'' this year, and said Compaq plans to offer all its
products on its Internet site this year. He said an Asian
recovery and Chinese demand for PCs should contribute to PC
market growth, and that ''Compaq has always been growing at a
higher rate than the market, and we believe it will continue to
be a big PC market,'' Pfeiffer said on CNBC.

Compaq, the world's No. 1 computer maker, which completed
its acquisition of Digital in June, said in October that third-
quarter earnings fell less than expected as it pared inventories
of PCs.
