-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1999--SkyMall Inc. (Nasdaq:SKYM.O) Thursday announced that effective Jan. 1, 1999, it formed a new wholly owned subsidiary of the company, skymall.com, which will operate SkyMall's existing e-commerce business and focus on rapidly expanding its two key business lines. These businesses include developing SkyMall's own Web site as a premier Internet destination and enabling companies to conduct e-commerce through skymall.com's merchant solution. Skymall.com intends to pursue these goals through further strategic alliances, significantly broadening its current product line, actively marketing its turnkey e-commerce solution and adding new content to attract more visitors. Commenting on the announcement, Robert M. Worsley, SkyMall's president and chief executive officer, said: "We've seen a tremendous upsurge in our e-commerce activity this past quarter, and we are committed to continuing to leverage our excellent customer service and back-end infrastructure to capitalize on the opportunities of the Internet. The goal of our new subsidiary is to continue to grow to accommodate increasing traffic to our site and to offer our customers the very best in price, quality and product selection. Starting from a profitable base and with over eight years of experience, we have been successfully selling and processing orders for multiple vendors longer than most Internet companies have existed." Skymall.com has begun assembling a skilled and experienced team to leverage the strengths and accomplishments of SkyMall Inc. The first member of the team, Sandy Goldman, vice president-sales, is a senior executive with significant Internet experience. Goldman most recently served as chief executive officer of pix.com, an e-commerce Web site that allows consumers to upload their digital photos for personalizing picture gifts, where he was responsible for re-positioning the company and raising funding. For the two years preceding, he was senior vice president and general manager of WaveTop, a consumer data broadcast product line of WavePhore Inc. (Nasdaq:WAVO.O). Goldman brings a wealth of experience in building new media companies. At WaveTop, his responsibilities included new business development and creating content partnerships. Previously, he co-founded Shoppers Express, the first Internet-based grocery-shopping service. In addition, he has held senior executive positions at Turner Broadcasting Systems Inc. and Actmedia (acquired by News Corp.). "I am delighted to have Sandy on board to direct the critical sales activities of skymall.com," said Worsley. "His presence will help us to expand both the product selection and Web site content aspects of our electronic commerce operations." Skymall.com is a subsidiary of SkyMall(R), which was founded on its successful in-flight catalog business. SkyMall and skymall.com make high-quality products and services available to more than 400 million airline passengers each year, and to millions of online shoppers. SkyMall markets and sells premium merchandise from participating merchants, including major catalog companies and specialty retailers. SkyMall's in-flight catalog program and electronic commerce initiatives are being leveraged through international expansion and incentive programs aimed at broadening the company's product lines and expanding its customer base. Through another subsidiary, Durham & Company, SkyMall offers high-quality logo merchandise to corporate America and other organizations.
