Regarding this tax deduction for underwear thing, I just went to a tax seminar. There is a publication called "deductions for your used clothing" or something like that, that stipulates $$ that should be deducted on Schedule A for used clothing contributions, as well as other items such as computer equipment. You can take a box of things to goodwill or the animal shelter and they will go through everything for you and give you a list of your contributions - they do this as a service, with the $$ amount listed. I ordered the book but havent received it yet - however I did look at it at the seminar. It clearly stipulates that underwear, socks etc. should have a value of $2., with a general category of "underwear". Clinton claimed $4, which could have been a mistake made by him or the organization that determined the value of his contributions.

In the seminar I attended the tax advisor even said to be careful about these dollar amounts because the IRS "got" Clinton for claiming $2 more than he should have. People laughed at this, not at Clinton, because who knows if it was even underwear he was claiming - could have been socks etc but at the sheer pettyness of the clinton haters (and IRS) that think a $2 mistake on a charitable contribution deduction is even worth mentioning or harping on.
