Paul, I guess it is possible that 3Comm could have designed a product using VLNC batteries without production samples, but I think it unlikely. Unless Lev managed to convince them that after many years of trying, and more than one false start, this time there will be no problems in gearing up the line to mass production. And convince them of this before they received production samples.

When Lev made the comment about some OEM's being more agressive than others, he mentioned cell phone manufacturers who would be able to use another battery type in case VLNC was unable to come through.

From the article about the Palm V, the design of the product does not allow for a back up if the Lithium polymer battery could not be mass-produced.
