Far more Republican seats are at stake than Democrat seats in the year 2000 elections (19 Repub vs. 14 Dem). Besides, 9 of those 19 seats were won by fairly small margin of votes.

What chips that aren't down already, Cody? It's still the Starr report for evidence, and 2 counts of insufficient cooperation with Starr as the impeachment articles. And unless there's been a total turnaround in the past week, moving forward on impeachment doesn't look to be a big vote getter. Even Republicans admit this, the line there is that it'll all be forgotten about by the next election.

There may be plenty of entertainment value in the trial, though. But "saving the Constitution and legal system" is highly debatable. Conservatives have such deep respect for the civil tort system otherwise. And the Constitution doesn't require the Senate to vote to convict.
