S&P's Equity Research Dir. Unveils Power Picks Fund For '99

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Standard & Poor's Power Picks portfolio for 1999 is a group of 26 stocks that the firm's industry analysts say are poised to outperform the market in 1999.

"As you can imagine, this cuts through a wide range of industries and economic sectors," Kenneth Shea, S&P's equity research director, said in an interview with CNBC Thursday.

The Power Picks portfolio, which is composed of 14 large-cap, seven mid-cap and five small-cap issues, "replicates the S&P 500 quite nicely," Shea said.

"While it's large enough to offer diversity in terms of industry exposure and also by asset class, it's small enough that an average investor can pretty much emulate this portfolio pretty well," he said.

Stocks in the portfolio are: America Online Inc. (AOL), Apache Corp. (APA), Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT), Armco Inc. (AS), AT&T Corp. (T), Biogen Inc. (BGEN), Cablevision Systems Corp. (CVC), Cigna Corp. (CI), Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), CMS Energy Corp. (CMS), Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. (CCE), Continental Airlines Inc. (CAIB), EMC Corp.
