This is a little old (post-Comdex), but it hasn't been posted.

LAS VEGAS--At the Comdex trade show, an official of Rambus
Inc. of Mountain View, Calif., predicted the high-speed Rambus
memory interface will eclipse synchronous dynamic RAM by
2000.

Julia A. Cates, Rambus' product marketing manager, said about
500 64M Rambus modules have gone to Dell Computer Corp. for
evaluation and prototyping. Each module consists of 16 64M
error-correcting chips made by LG Semicon America Inc. of San
Jose, Calif., on a circuit board from Kingston Technology Co. of
Fountain Valley, Calif.

On the bus

By March of next year, 128M Rambus modules will be in
production, Cates said.

Rambus has licensed its technology to several chip and module
manufacturers. Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. of
Sunnyvale, Calif., both have announced plans to incorporate
Rambus into their next-generation memory controller chip sets and
motherboards. Rambus modules, also called RIMMs, have the
same form factor as double in-line memory modules.

Cates said future 400-MHz PC buses could exploit Rambus to
reach memory throughput of 1.6G per second.
