I don't think they can. IMO the most important thing in EBPP is the distribution of the bill. I don't see how a banks can distribute bills to a wide range of platforms (Portals, Brokers, and other banks), the banks don't have the infrastructure, relationships, or the technology for the distribution of the bill, they need CheckFree. IMO while the banks are have delusions of grandeur of creating their own EBPP, the brokers and portals will capture a very large portion of the EBPP market.

...and don't for get about Pay Anyone (that CF owns), most consumers would want one website where they can pay E-Bills and Paper Bills.

Well it can't be a 'killer app' with 50 billers. There needs to be several 100's if not 1000's.
