Here an interesting new application for the Auto PC coming from General Magic and Microsoft. The thing I find so strange about it from a storage point of view is that they seem to think a CD Rom drive will have the sole purpose of storing mapping information. This seems like a great waste of a drive to assign it nearly a perminent function of mapping. Wouldn't it be easier to store a cache of commonly visited areas on a hard drive and then go to a CD when necessary? I guess you'll also need a second CD to play music?

Has it been determined yet that magnetic storage is not shock resistant enough to operate in a car?

Regards, Mark

Daniel,

Thanks for the note on the satellite TV box. An interesting solution. Now you can put your life on "pause". At least during the three hours per day, on average, that Americans spend in front of the tube. <G>
Best,
