1998 Internet Revenue Up by 146Percent, Announces infoUSA

January 7, 1999 02:44 PM
OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1999--infoUSA Inc. IUSAA announced today that based on preliminary results, its Internet revenue increased 146 percent from $3.9 million in 1997 to $9.6 million in 1998. These figures include revenue from its Internet licenses and the sale of its database products and services via its web site, infoUSA.com. The license fee is derived from major Internet content providers, such as Yahoo, Microsoft, Netscape, GTE Superpages, Switchboard and InfoSpace, who are all offering infoUSA's database for distribution on their web sites. These web sites also direct traffic to the infoUSA web site, infoUSA.com, which generates sales from its databases and business credit reports.

"There is a tremendous demand in the marketplace for accurate business and consumer information," stated infoUSA chairman and chief executive officer, Vinod Gupta, "and infoUSA has been the industry leader in providing high quality data to businesses and consumers. The growth in the company's database product sales over the infoUSA web site demonstrates that this is an ideal distribution network for meeting this demand. The company's web site currently has over 200,000 registered users and is experiencing approximately 900,000 page views per day, making it one of the most visited business-to-business web sites on the Internet. infoUSA's two million customers, many of whom are small business owners and entrepreneurs, represent one of the largest growth markets for e-commerce."

Gupta continued, "The growth in licensing revenues is a result of Internet content providers having recognized the value of our database in attracting traffic to their sites, which is a key determinant of their ability to generate advertising revenues. The fact is, infoUSA derives Internet revenue from two sources, licensing and content sales, making the company a leader in both providing and selling information in cyberspace."

The company also announced the appointment of Sandy Goodman as vice president of the Internet license division. Due to the increasing growth in this sector, the company is beefing up its staff who will identify potential licensees, understand their needs and license its database to them. Goodman was previously responsible for strategic business development activity for the company.

infoUSA, www.infoUSA.com, formerly named American Business Information, is a leading provider of business and consumer marketing information products and data processing services in the United States and Canada. Nearly two million customers use the products and services for direct marketing, telemarketing, marketing planning, lead generation, sales planning, customer analysis and credit reference.
