God forbid that children should say a prayer and maybe offend another group. Just before Christmas in Victoria we had a recent immigrant who complained that we were allowing the schools to have Christmas concerts and that Christmas was a Christian celebration, and so therefore it should not be allowed in the schools, because it was discriminatory

I agree wholeheartedly Shirley. If the shoe was on the other foot and for example, you or I were living in Afghanistan and we complained that some Muslim traditions offended us just how far do you think we would get? I'll bet not even to the end of the street!

Not to mention the recent complaint by the Christian Priest that the Fed's stepped in at the services for the victims of the Swiss Air crash and forbade him from saying Jesus Christ or Christ or Jesus. Lest he offend someone...Even attendant representatives from other religions were surprised at that.

These people are free to start their own schools and keep their own traditions. Financial support from our government included. In most circumstances, these schools become even more fundamentalist in their practices (circle the wagons effect) as the homeland liberalizes and Westernizes the out-culture solidifies and even the slightest transgression becomes unacceptable. Being shunned by your community is the worst fear imaginable and they are relatively small communities to begin with.
