Mark F. RE: big block buy at close
Do you see this on Level II; what significance does this buy have, from your prospective? Seems with breakout of O/H resistance at old high(43 7/8 +/-) the short sellers took a big hit today; was this buy the stake in the heart for the shortees?
CS First Boston apparently has greater credibility on the Street than Oppenheimer, judging from the relative impact of the respective downgrade/upgrade.
AAPL was very strong throughout the day, even when NAZ/DOW were at their lows, AAPL was moving up on strong volume.
Closing at the high on a buy of this magnitude certainly gives pause to the shorts going into expiry next week.

General question to thread: do any of you long term holders buy cheap puts on runups as a hedge? Any strategies would be interesting to discuss; I'd like to hold onto AAPL shares during this year, but expect a great deal of general market volatility to effect AAPL and all stocks, at least short term.
Noted that many sold with the Oppenheimer downgrade and it's immediate impact upon price of shares; must be a better way for those of us who see the promise of appreciation to stay the course
Thanks to all posters, on this very civilized thread
