FMR group holds 10.7 pct stake in Marine
WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (Reuters) - A group led by FMR Corp. said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Thursday it holds a 10.678 percent stake in Marine Drilling Cos Inc. or or 5,588,300 common shares.

The group disclosed its latest position on Marine in a 13G filing. FMR Corp is the parent to Fidelity Management & Research Co, investment adviser to Fidelity Funds.

Filings under 13G are usually made by institutions and large investors with ''passive'' investment objectives in a company. Unlike 13D filings, those reports do not list the latest transactions.

Very prudent for those with a conservative trading vantage point.
BTW, I read Kiplinger here at work all the time. He/they often misses on calls about an overall market, so I wouldn't over react simply on his statement.

I think the OSX has done alot in the last 2 days and profit taking is probably in order for some. I'm not sure this move is over. If oil prices can hover around the $13 range, or move higher, then there should be continued interest in this sector.

Gold up solidly today.

Michael

TECHNICAL ALERT ON OSX FUTURES:

An unknown investor purchased 8000 futures contracts on the OSX index on1/6/99. Faber announced this on CNBC this AM and promptly stated,

"Can you spell P A I N?"

Today that same investor purchased another 1000 contracts which drove the OSX index even higher.

Apparently the identity of this guy is known to those in Oil Circles and he is almost always correct.

How can this be?

1]. You don't acquire that kind of money [100 million +] by being wrong or making bad bets

2]. Fact: Insider trading laws [Section 10b] apply to stocks and options; NOT futures.

3]. Fact: Inside Information CAN LEGALLY be used to purchase futures.

I believe this purchase of 9000 osx contracts in the last 2 days by an insider is about the STRONGEST BUY SIGNAL possible.

What inside info could he know? Perhaps a handshake agreement between the opec nations. Any other ideas?
