Some OMPT comments..... Look before you leap. I've been in OMPT for awhile and think the company is in a great strategic position and will be bought-out especially since they have publicly stated that they have the "for sale" sign out. But this recent "rumor" of either BT or Bell Atlantic being the suitor needs a little analysis on how and why. Also, for more info on OMPT, check-out some of my earlier posts on OMPT thread.

1) Bell Atlantic would be violating FCC 45MHz spectrum cap in major northeast cities (NYC, Boston, Phily, etc.) where BEL and OMPT compete against one another. Since this rule exists, it would be nearly impossible for BEL to own OMPT. Even if the rule is changed, BEL needs national footprint and uses different technology than OMPT. IMO OMPT buy-out by BEL seems highly unlikely from strategic and regulatory perspective.

2) There are currently foreign ownership rules around owning telecommunications companies. So a "clean" buy-out by BT is not impossible-but difficult. What is more likely is what Hutchinson did with WWCA (a company similar to OMPT on the west coast) and just make an equity investment rather than a complete buy-out.

I don't know where the "mid 20's" rumor of BEL or BT came from- but practically speaking-it seems a little strange to me. BT is MUCH more likely candidate than BEL to be a buyer although a 100% premium from today's price seems pretty steep. OMPT is no ATI.

Whoever buys OMPT will be looking to be the company trying to build a nationwide US GSM footprint to compete against AT&T, Sprint, etc.

I thought OMPT was up huge today because of two reasons 1) MCI/Worldcomm rumor to be bidding on ATI. Previously, MCI/WCOM has said that it does not need wireless to compete. By throwing their hat in the ATI bidding sweepstakes- it signals that if they don't get ATI- they could be the one to be the national GSM provider and thus buy OMPT. 2) OMPT has one of the highest % of short interest (of their total float) of any listed company. Any material news such as WCOM/MCI potentially getting into wireless, ATI buy-out, etc. creates big short squeeze which can make the price pop-up in a hurry. Over the last few months, OMPT has had alot of block short traders and this weeks movement could be some covering to prevent them from really getting burned.

Tim- I agree with your posts that this is great board- Hope everyone can continue to "behave" if they post here!!!

Tim,

Speaking of P & D.....

First of all, thanks for OMPT. Looked good all day so I jumped in just under $12

Second, picked this off TM's thread....STRX. Actually has good fundamentals and I had heard before what TM exclaimed on the thread today that there are rumours existing STRX will be bought out. Funny thing, nobody, and I mean nobody...picked up STRX on the thread after TM gave it out. I got a few shares now at $14 7/8 and it crossed $15 late.

If you have the time, look into STRX and tell me what you think. Actually looks like a good position play and did you catch CRYSF again today!!!

Jane:=)

Tim..I think you have an AWESOME thread going here.
