The WebMate is crucial to keep the big growth coming. However, I think that the stats showing that a big pct. of iMac sales are going to new Mac users will lead to better than industry growth anyway. But I don't necessarily think that the G3 Pro line will grow faster than the industry as a whole. Unless Apple aggressively pushes the Y2K issue and the lower cost of maintenance.

in that case?>>

Yes. With Apple's unique industrial design and corporate image, as well as superior OS, it has sufficient appeal to continue to win over both first-time users and Windows users.

When you're still sitting well under 10% market share, you don't really need the market as a whole to grow. You just need to offer a product more attractive (ah, the double-meaning) than those of your competitors.

It's a long, profitable road between here and the 10,15,20 (whatever) % you might place as Apple's long-term maximum market share.

<< ...suppose Apple keeps on renewing the product line for 1999 but does not introduce iMate. Do you think Apple would grow faster than the rest of the industry in that case?>>

To my way of thinking, depends on how well the new servers sell - as a prelude to Apple's main foray into the enterprise market(s).
