OK what about Burton then? He called the president a "scumbag", even though he has a bunch of skeletons in his closet. Also, the most visible example is Hyde and all his trumpeting, and no, I dont dismiss his actions as "youthful indiscretions".

The point is that the Republican Party put him up as their candidate for Senator from California. Whether he won or lost is beside the point. Besides, he could have always run for office again, even while cheating on his wife on the side! Are you saying that it just doesn't matter as long as he doesn't win? What nonsense!
