Blankmind,

I listened to that conference call with Rick Allen.

First, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in Rick's numbers. He could be off by 100%, in either direction but most likely lower.

Second, I believe JDEC will win a LOT of low end to low middle end deals in the AS400 arena, i.e. companies in the $100M to $500M range.

Third, JDECs products are flawed in so much as they are unsuitable for use in setting typically found in larger firms - dispersed operations, multinational operations, complex sales systems...all the stuff found in firms from $250M in revenues on up. Their product suite doesn't include the new stuff clients want either, i.e. Front Office. They lack application program interfaces for vendors to easily use to sell with JDEC's products. There are very few non-AS400 add on products to complement the JDEC One World product because they are such a minor player. If you want front office or advanced planning software and decide to use SEBL or ITWO, good luck with an interface to JDEC. Not there.

What irks me is JDEC being put in the same camp as SAP, ORCL, PSFT and even BAANF. JDEC doesn't have the ERP suite done and they aren't going to deliver the Web enabled product that larger firms need. JDEC also doesn't really have a clue how to use a relational database, a.k.a. SAP. Look at how well SAP has done with their goofy architecture over the past 9 months. It takes a LONG time to implement complex, screwed up stuff in anything other than the smallest of companies. If JDEC wants to trumpet their success at BIG firms like Yalumba Wines as vindication that they are easy to install I challenge you to contact the big firms that use (or are trying to use) their stuff. Companies like Panasonic and Medtronic.

All I am saying here is that JDEC isn't going to be a major player outside the small to mid market. Not now, not ever. Oracle, SAP and PSFT all have rapidly evolving mid-market plans. Oracle has split its entire sales force to go after mid-market. They have a LOT more feet on the street.

Cheers!
