Here is a simpler way to look at my example:

If you bought at $10 and sold it at $9, you are down $1
If you buy at $8 and it goes to $9, you are even, same as if you
averaged down, but without the additional risk of have it go down furtheron a holding twice as large.

>>AT ... well, did you pull the trigger on NSOL?<<

Why does everyone think I am this bad mean short? I did say NSOL can make a run to 150 at least, Little did I know that it can run upto 250 or EBAY to 300 or AMZN to 500 and I was very bullish at those before most people even heard of them.
I am hording money and waiting my time, I figure when the time is right I just short a few of these and retire. They should deflate enough each year to pay for a good life. I saw the upgrade on NSOL with the analyist comments, The guy didnt even know what he was blabbing about. If it was someone like Kurlack I would have laughed, but this guy does not deserve 'my' notice to bother. And unlike AMZN or EBAY or YHOO, NSOL can only take over the US.

My thanks to everyone for their feedback. Scott, the percentage example was very clear.

I'm looking at the question from the psycological angle. Most of us know that stopping losses is perhaps the most important part of making money. Yet even the best of us will double down on occasion, despite the irrationality of it.

On the face of it, doubling up, however, seems to make sense to me. You're using money that the stock has already provided. You're in a stock that's moving in the right direction. I've never read anything pro or concerning it, so I thought I'd ask the experts.

I'll continue to try to stick to my current money management rules, but will start looking at "what if's" had I added to winners when they cleared a point.

Thanks all.

Oh, and Poet, mam...I wasn't picking on your trading style or anything, and apologize if I gave that impression. It was just your post that jogged my memory.

Jay

You know of the JAN 11 announcement?

Pentium III - As part of a "branding announcement" set for Monday, Jan. 11., Intel Corp. is expected to officially name its next-generation Pentium chip, code-named Katmai, the "Pentium III."

The Pentium III will begin at 450MHz and 500MHz, sources said. Intel (Nasdaq:INTC) has already stated publicly that it would release Katmai processors with those two clock speeds in this quarter.
